The mining, petroleum, and gas extraction sector generated $919 million in 2016. This income accounted for 23.9% of the total GDP, 15.7% of which came solely from the diamond mining sub-sector.
In the Fraser Institute Annual Survey of Mining Companies released in 2016, the NWT ranked 21st out of 104 mining jurisdictions with regard to mining executives' perception of mineral potential.
The NWT is at a crucial phase of our development and the mining industry will be a core engine of economic growth.
